The Adam Smith Centre held a national event in 2019 titled “Why Commemorate 1819?”, to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the founding of Singapore under the British by Sir Stamford Raffles. Hosted at Tanglin Trust School, we hosted various speakers who shared the importance of the British legacy for Singapore’s post-war development, especially though our inheritance of key institutions of parliamentary democracy and open trade.
